Lots to do! Before finishing creating our characters, weapons, upgrades, sidekicks, … we watch this video as appetiser of a possible fusion of art, design and new technology and what impact such creative thinking and effort can make for others.

SESSION 4 – 11th October 2011
We’ve started creating our characters for our three level game.
Steve Jobs’ Think different commercial was our start into the session.

SESSION 3 – 4th October 2011
What game can we create together? What is possible? How could it look like? Which characters can be played and how what worlds are to travel through? We just were spinning round to get an idea what we would like to do.

SESSION 2 – 27th SEPTEMBER 2011
Here’s the first result of our little game. The backgrounds and photos are made by the kids and were later prepared in Photoshop and then animated with the software Flash. I’m going to improve it a little bit in the next days that playing around is much more fun. But still as a first result it’s great! Just move the curser right or left to see the entire world. You also can interact with the characters while clicking simply with your mouse or trackpad on the characters and start moving them around. Enjoy!

SESSION 1 – 20th SEPTEMBER 2011
Rotator Reflection of our first AG day:

Dear parents,
Don’t worry! We won’t only play and watch games all the time in this AG. But sometimes we will! It’s important to understand the rules behind a game, its gameplay and why it’s fun or not. We are Game Creators now and we’re going to create one game ourselves. We will be creative in many ways and make a nice little game highly probable like GESUNDHEIT! Watch the trailer below and enjoy:

  • We introduced each other and the Game Creators Club.
  • We were X or O and Player 1 was playing against Player 2. We jumped on the playing field and acted one the oldest game XOX.
  • Game Creators Club’s rules were established :  )
  • We welcomed our new friend the Silent Fox: “Hello little fellow… PSST…he wants to sleep again!”.
  • The History of Games – We watched videos of the first games.
  • We played three different games in small groups:

Tiny Wings on the iPhone,

Fruit Ninja on the iPad,

and on the Mac Windosill which has also an online version. So please feel free to play the first half for free.

ABOUT THE GAME CREATORS CLUB

Girl draws a game and explains the story behind it to her dad.

Games have been played by mankind for centuries. When we look at the past and compare our behaviour regarding play with our ancestors’ little has changed. We still love playing exciting games.  The only difference is we live in a digital century with fast emerging new technologies.

Be it in the sandbox in the garden, out on the streets, in sports, at home, in the car or on the tube – we play games in various situations and places. And with devices like iPods, Wii and other consoles a entire new experience of playful learning is possible.

That’s were the Game Creators Club comes in – opening this world full of possibilities in new technology to learn media literacy skills. We’ll create playful digital and interactive worlds and learn how to use them responsible and creatively. Starting with what a game is, to the history of games we’ll also have a look at the different types of games for children that are out there. We look behind the scenes and how games are developed in the digital game industry.

We’ll discover that behind popular games there are often pretty amazing stories, great characters, an interesting gameplay and typically some repeating rules.

This is where the kids can start, fuelled with imagination, phantasy and play! We take the challenge to create our own game! We create a story, draw and craft characters and different levels. Then we are going to built the world where the action is taking place and make costumes. We’ll make little stop-motion animation and film sequences. Having a template we can import our creative video material and we’ll have a simple game online everybody can play!
